Trump Issues Executive Orders To Fight Gangs & Cartels, Protect Local Cops–58jh.,b58

President Donald Trump used the occasion of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ swearing-in ceremony to unveil three executive orders aimed at fighting crime and supporting local police.

“Today’s ceremony should be seen as a clear message to the gang members and drug dealers terrorizing innocent people, your day is over,” the president said. “A new era of justice begins and it begins right now.” “These executive actions continue to deliver on my campaign promises,” Trump contented.

The law enforcement section of the White House website makes Trump’s goal clear.

“Our job is not to make life more comfortable for the rioter, the looter, or the violent disrupter. Our job is to make life more comfortable for parents who want their kids to be able to walk the streets safely. Or the senior citizen waiting for a bus. Or the young child walking home from school,” it states on the Trump White House page.

To implement that philosophy, Trump issued three orders on Thursday.

“First, I’m directing Department of Justice and Homeland Security to undertake all necessary and lawful action to break the back of the criminal cartels that have spread across our nation and are destroying the blood of our youth and other people, many other people,” said Trump.

The order noted that “the trafficking by cartels of controlled substances has triggered a resurgence in deadly drug abuse and a corresponding rise in violent crime related to drugs. Likewise, the humanitarian trafficking and smuggling of human beings by transnational criminal groups risks creating a crisis. These crimes, along with many others, are enriching and empowering these organizations to the detriment of the American people.”

“Secondly, I’m directing Department of Justice to form a task force on reducing violent crime in America,” the president added.

The order says that, “A focus on law and order and the safety and security of the American people requires a commitment to enforcing the law and developing policies that comprehensively address illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and violent crime.”

The attorney general will develop the composition of the task force, Trump’s order states.

“And thirdly, I’m directing the Department of Justice to implement a plan to stop crime and crimes of violence against law enforcement officers,” he said.

That order also calls for “recommendations to the President for legislation to address the protection and safety of Federal, State, tribal, and local law enforcement officers, including, if warranted, legislation defining new crimes of violence and establishing new mandatory minimum sentences for existing crimes of violence against Federal, State, tribal, and local law enforcement officers …”

At Thursday’s ceremony, Trump said he would protect America’s law enforcement community.

“It’s a shame what’s been happening to our great, truly great law enforcement officers. That’s going to stop as of today.
