Longtime Trump-Hater Krauthammer Says Trump’s Epic Presser Was Actually “Hinged”–58.61jh.
If you’re like CNN’s Jake Tapper and wish to treat President Donald Trump as if he were a doorway, conservative pundit Charles Krauthammer says not to worry. He can vouchsafe that the hinges are not only there, but in good working condition.
In an appearance on Fox News Friday, Krauthammer — a very, visible #NeverTrumper during the campaign season — said he found the president’s lively, sometimes-heated news conference on Thursday entirely “hinged,” adding that it was “performance art” and that “you have to judge him by his own terms.”
Krauthammer was unsubtly referring to Tapper’s remarks on Trump’s news conference, in which the president attacked the media for some of its coverage. The CNN reporter called the president “unhinged” and said he should stop whining. “I found him ‘hinged,’” Krauthammer joked, adding that “it was a stream of consciousness.”
“You think of the JFK press conferences or Reagan or others,” he continued. “This is a performance art. I suppose I’m willing to be schooled on this, that you have to judge him by his own terms. If you try to connect the dots or the sentences or the fragments, it doesn’t always hold together.”
Krauthammer also joked about Trump dropping his own name from the podium.
“I must say, of course, the high point was when he mentioned to me,” Krauthammer said. “I thought I was going to be the surprise new national security adviser, so I was somewhat disappointed.” “The country is really divided, he’s not the one who caused it, but his supporters will love this and those who are skeptical about him are going to wonder about how hinged he is,” Krauthammer concluded.
And let’s point out, Krauthammer isn’t exactly an unqualified Trump fan. While he’s softened on the president over the months, back in August he wrote in The Washington Post, “I used to think Trump was an 11-year-old, an undeveloped schoolyard bully. I was off by about 10 years. His needs are more primitive, an infantile hunger for approval and praise, a craving that can never be satisfied. He lives in a cocoon of solipsism where the world outside himself has value — indeed exists — only insofar as it sustains and inflates him.”
That was obviously hyperbole — but then, Tapper’s po-faced moralizing was pretty over the top, too. But at least Krauthammer knew he was exaggerating.
If Trump’s performance at the news conference — which wasn’t exactly amiable but certainly wasn’t hysterical — qualifies as “unhinged” to Tapper, I truly hope he never gets assigned to cover a Louis Farrakhan speech. The poor man will have his delicate sensibilities shattered, perhaps irreparably.
To Tapper, anyone who doesn’t concede that the media is doing whatever the secular version of the Lord’s work is must be “unhinged,” because no one with any sense would fail to acknowledge just how wise and accurate they are. CNN’s Jim Acosta even intimated, during the news conference, that the president was “undermining the people’s faith in the First Amendment, freedom of the press, the press in country” by attacking the media
I wouldn’t worry about that, were I them. When it comes to undermining the people’s faith in CNN, CNN has managed to do a stellar job of that on their own.
