When history of the Obama adm is written, there will be a chapter on its immense humanitarian and strategic failure in Syria. Nor have we yet confronted the dangers that are arising there form the vast jihadist presence. The US had an obvious interest in seeing the Assad regime replaced. After all this was an enemy regime, tied to Iran and Hezbollah and brutal in its repression of all dissent and it had a good deal of American blood on its hands. It had facilitated the travel of jihadist to Iraq to kill Americans.
The population is 74% Sunni, so Assad as an Alawite was always going to have to rule by the gun; a Sunni-led government might be able to rely on the ballot box or a least on less repressive system.
His reaction was to crush the opposition with any force necessary. He used chemical weapons, air attack on civilian neighborhoods, artillery assaults on medical facilities and dense civilian housing. In other words Mass Murder. 200,00 dead—some estimates are double that—and one fourth of the population is homeless, now refugees or displaced persons. Iran and Hezbollah aided his killings—with arms supplied by Russia.
Clinton, Kerry and Gates urged support for the rebels. With America leadership, especially early on, we could have organized a coherent international effort t to back non-jihadist Sunni rebels make them stronger that their rivals. Indeed the vacuum that sucked in jihadist from all over the world would never have been created.
Advice and warnings form his subordinate’s fell on deaf ears, as the jihadist grew. In fact they led to an Obamas threat—his famous “RED LINE”—and then his eleventh hour reversal on a decision to strike some of Assad’s assets by way of punishment and deterrence. Instead obama fumbled and grasped the helping hand of Putin, who concocted a chemical weapons deal between obama an Assad.
The international community works with him to remove them, we have no idea if he is declaring 10 or 40 or 70% of those stocks. The chemical weapons deal gave
Assad license to continue killing by any means other that chemical weapons. The American strike that Obama decided against at the last minute could have destroyed some of Assad’s helicopter and fixed wing aircraft, ands damaged their bases.
Excuses would a jihadist victory be better that Assad? We can’t after all allow al Q to take over, so perhaps Assad is a necessary evil?
It matters deeply to the credibility and the future interest of the USA and our allies. It matters because a lot of other countries whose policies challenge these international norms are watching. It is directly relate to our credibility and whether counties still believe the US when it says something. They are watching to see if Syria can get away with it because then maybe they to can put the world at greater risk.
The American reaction is pathetic. Here is what the White House spokesman said in response to the murder and “barrel bombs” in Aleppo at years end—“the US condemns the ongoing air assault by Syrian government forces, the use of SCUD missiles and barrel bombs. Syrian government must respect it obligations under international humanitarian law to protect the civilian population. The Syrian government must fulfill its November commitment to do more to facilitate the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance. To bring the suffering of the Syrian people to an end. Syrians reach a comprehensive and durable political solution to end the crisis in Syria. The USA remains committed to advancing a political settlement to help end the bloodshed in Syria.
Obama directive of 2011 said: “preventing mass atrocities and genocide is a core national security interest and a core moral responsibility of the US. Our security is affected when masses of civilians are slaughtered, refugees flow across border and murderers weak havoc on regional stability and livelihoods. America’s reputation suffers and our ability to bring about change is constrained when we are perceived as idle in the face if mass atrocities and genocide.” (NO SHIT)
Obama established the “ATROCITIES PREVENTION BOARD” in a brave speech at the Holocaust Museum in 2012 where he stated—“ never again is a challenge to nations. It’s a bitter truth—too often, the world has failed to prevent the killing of innocents on a massive scale. And we are haunted by the atrocities that we did not stop and the lives we didn’t not save. (CAN YOU SAY PHONY BASTARD)
And where are we on the jihadist front? “the rate at which foreign fighter, both seasoned jidhadist and inexperienced young men, have headed for Syria eclipses that of recent conflicts in AFG Somalia and Yeman.” Estimates are that there are 10,000 jihadist fighting in Syria.1,000-2,000 are western—mainly from Europe. This large body of jihadist surpasses the number who ever gathered in AFG and of course here they are not near the border of Pakistan but on the borders of Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq. When the Western jihadist go “home” it will not be to Islamabad or Riyadh but to Amsterdan and Paris and Madrid, perhaps to NY, DC, or LA, even Chicago.
He is presiding over a humanitarian disaster where war crimes and atrocities occur each day and he responds with speeches. He is conceding a strategic victory and has rejected the line that “there is not military solution”
He is endangering our safety by allowing jihadist to turn Syria into their world center of activity.

The NYT in many issues surrounding the attacks are now settled. Rational and irrational alike, this revisionist account is neither authoritative nor definitive. The central thesis of the pieces is wrong and the sweeping claim the author has made in defending it is demonstrably false. Interviews with Libyans there, including some who participated in the attacks, say that there is “no evidence that al Qaeda or other international terrorist had any role in the assault”.
When David Gregory and Kirkpatrick were asked how he could be sure that there was in involvement of al-Q or international terrorist, “I think honestly if you asked anybody in the US intel business they would tell you the same thing”.
We have been asking people in the US intel business about al-Q and the Benghazi attacks for 15 months. Virtually all of them have told us the same thing: terrorist associated with al Q and it s affiliates were involved in the attacks. How could a star NYT reporter claim that no on in the US intel community believes al Q or other international terrorist had any role. When we were talking to more than a dozen such sources who said the opposite?
Many people in the US intel business have contradicted his main argument on the record. Senator Feinsten told host Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation on 12/2/12 about a briefing from CIA director Petraeus: “ there is a transcript. He said very clearly that there were al Q elements involved”.
Matthew Olsen director of the National counter-terrorism center testified on 9/13/12 that there were “indications that individuals involved in the attack may have had connection to al Q or al Q affiliates, in particular al Q in the Islamic Maghreb”
Dutch Ruppersberger, the ranking Dem on the House Permanent Select Comm on Intel reported without qualification that al Q had a role in the attacks.” the people involved in the group were affiliates of al Q and other extremists groups”. They knew how to shoot mortars and hit targets.
Mike Rogers and Saxby Chambliss have consistently pointed to al Q ties among the attackers. Adam Schiff responded to the NYT piece by telling Fox Chris Wallace that, while there were local militias and other who participated in the attacks, “the intel indicates that al Q was involved”.
“The latest info I have is based on interviews with the US intel personnel on the ground before, during and after the attacks. These interviews have solidified what US officials knew within hours of the attacks—that al Q was responsible for the deaths.
Officials say operatives from the Muhamad Jarmqal network based in Egypt participated in the attacks along with terrorist tied to al Q in the Islamic Maghreb and Ansar al Sharia in Libya. Many national security officials in the Obama adm are eager to separate “core al Q” from regional and local affiliates. The groups involved in the attacks have ties to broader al Q—including its leadership. Muhamad Jamal has ties to al Q leader Ayman al Zawahiri and was corresponding with him in the moths before the attacks.
August 2012, just a month before the attacks, reports say that Ansar al Shjaria “has increasingly embodied al Q presence in Libya”. The Pentagon looked at the growing presence of al Q in post Qaddafi Libya. It concluded that “al Q senior leadership (AQSL) and al Q in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) have sought to take advantage of the Libyan Revolution capabilities in an attempt to create a safe haven and possibly extend their area of operations to Libya.

Americans are longing for leaders who are prepared to solve problems, rather that sweep them under the rug.
We need balance in the political parities so that quality candidates who will be committed to legislation can win office.
They must be wiling and able to operate constructively in such an environment. Congress abysmal 11% approval rating signal that Americans are fed up with politicians who are more beholden to ideology or ambition than running the country. They expect
leaders who do not consider compromise to be a dirty word and pragmatism to be an antiquated concept.
Restore checks and balances in our government legislators are ceding too much authority to the federal agencies by writing huge, confusing and vague laws—like Obamacare and Dodd-Frank—leaving the regulators to fill in the blanks.
Executive orders and powerful policy czars—appointed without senate confirmation—the president is working to advance his agenda outside the purview of congress. Every administration should operate with transparency, accountability, and within the constitutional division of powers.
We need to stop wasteful spending and increase managerial competence.
It is the people’s responsibility to send good leaders to Washington.

John Beale the retired EPA official—Princeton grad, one-time deputy assistant adm in the Office of Air and Radiation, congressionally certified expert on global warming—who has been sentenced to 32 months in prison for stealing nearly a million dollars from the federal government.
Beale was padding expense accounts, first class travel and taking off one day a week—allegedly on government business. Beale would be gone for weeks and moths at a time. Between 2000 and June 2008 his desk at the EPA at a salary at $206,000 seems to have been unoccupied for a total of tow and a half years.
Absences: he was on special assignments for the CIA. Sometimes at the fabled Directorate of Operations in Langley, sometimes on interagency task forces in DC and sometimes in the mountains of Pakistan fighting the Taliban. He was every schoolboy’s dream Secret Agent as well.
Beale’s lawyer explained his theft and deception were animated by a highly self-destructive and dysfunctional need to engage in excessively reckless, risky behavior.
The inspector general suffers form “an absence of even basic internal controls”.

Advocates of assisted suicide tell three lies—the first is that assisted suicide/euthanasia is a strictly medical act. Second they falsely assure us that medicalized killing is only for the terminally ill. Finally they promise that strict guidelines will be rigorously enforced to protect against abuse. A new bill tabled in the Scottish parliament would legalize assisted suicide for “terminal” or progressive and either terminal or life-shortening” conditions—undefined terms that could easily include chromic ailments such a s diabetes, asymptomatic, HIV, infection and MS.
The Scottish bill goes a radical step further by creating a new profession—the licensed suicide facilitator”, authorized by the state to help suicidal patients kill themselves once a doctor has issued a lethal prescription. (CALL THE IPAB IN THE USA—DEATH PANEL)
Licensed facilitators would be authorized to when substances “dispensed or otherwise supplied for the suicide of the person is taken”. They would also be authorized to remove lethal drugs—presumably narcotics—from the home after their client died.
Such a heavy responsibility one would think should require extensive education in mental health disciplines and medicine. Nope. The legislation leaves it up to regulators to decide what experience and training licensed suicide facilitators will require. The bill specifies that organizations could be licensed—a boon to pro-euthanasia groups. Individuals as young as 16 also the minimum age to receive assistance in committing suicide—would be eligible for licensure. If the bill becomes laws one teenager could be legally authorized to help another teenager commit suicide.
Belgium warns of the consequences of accepting killing as an answer to human suffering. Its laws allow broad access to euthanasia, when “the patient is in a medically futile condition of constant unbearable physical or mental suffering”, which cannot be alleviat4ed. Since 2002, some Belgian doctors have implemented the law as if it permitted death on demand—EXAMPLES: transsexual repelled by the results of a sex change operation, a depressed anorexia patient, the joint euthanasia of deaf twins who asked to be killed together when both began losing their eyesight, joint euthanasia of elderly couples who preferred immediate death to eventual widowhood.
Belgian doctors also combine voluntary euthanasia with organ harvesting. Joint euthanasia /organ harvest have become so normalized that Belgian doctors created a PowerPoint presentation urging colleagues to be on the lookout for suicidal patients with MS.
And now, Belgian parliament seems likely to legalize child euthanasia. Just passed a bill allowing doctors to kill sick children. Belgium’s euthanasia guidelines are a mere veneer that can be violated without consequences. (LIKE GOING AROUND THE CONSTITUTION).
When violations finally come to public light, lawmakers simply amend the law to reflect actual practice—SOUND FAMILIAR.
Netherlands is where the categories of killable people have expanded like a sinkhole. Now psychiatrists want to get in on the killing.
On this side of the pond, Quebec is close to legalizing euthanasia. All major political parties in the provincial parliament support the plan, which would unlike any other proposal I have seen forbid assisted suicide and require doctors to kill qualified patients as medical treatment. It would accomplish this bit of prestidigitation by renaming euthanasia “medical aid in dying” (YOU MEAN LIKE MEETING WITH YOUR DOCTOR TO DISCUSS THIS UNDER OBC/ACA) and mandating that doctors “administer such aid personally” when asked by a legally qualified patient.
All Quebec doctors would be legally required to euthanize qualified patients—or, if morally opposed, to refer Patients to others willing to kill them. (WONDER IF GOSNELL CAN GET OUT OF JAIL)
The USA too has seen a lurch in assisted suicide policy; voters in Mass narrowly rejected a legalization referendum last year. Proposals her usually limit doctor-prescribed death to the terminally ill and include bureaucratic guidelines that supposedly will protect against abuse.
Vermont has a new assisted- suicide law that contained such provisions when lawmakers passed it in May. But the “safeguards” will sunset in 2016. After that no state oversight of any kind is mandated. Instead suicide-assisting doctors will make their own rules so long as the patent is “capable and does not have impaired judgment”.
TO RECAP: starting in 2016 doctors in Vermont will assist patient suicides under what mounts to an honor system, no questions asked. What could go wrong?
